ORANGE — Charles “Buck” Sonier, age 88, of Atlanta, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 18, 2013 in a local hospital. Buck was born May 31, 1924, in Toomey, Louisiana, to Rufus and Isabell Jackson Sonier. He was retired from U. S. Steel; was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, Bloomburg, Texas; and loved family, hunting, fishing and coaching Little League Baseball. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Juanita “Nita” Sonier; daughter, Katherine Sonier Johnson; parents; and a brother, James Milton Sonier. He is survived by a daughter, Charlsie Restelle and husband Mike of Atlanta, Texas; grandsons, Charles “Chuck” Restelle and friend Latisha Toby Nichols of Queen City, Texas, Jeffrey Johnson and wife Paula of Orange, Texas, granddaughters, Monica Bourgeois of Atlanta, Texas, Katy Wagstaff and husband Randy of Buna , Texas; great-granddaughters, Kayla Wagstaff of Buna, Texas, McKenzy Nichols of Queen City, Texas; great-grandsons, Sam Humphrey of Garrison, Texas, Justin Humphrey of Atlanta, Texas, Zach Restelle, Karson Nichols all of Queen City, Texas, Aron Johnson, Adam Johnson, Trent Wagstaff all of Buna, Texas; sisters, Lois Guidry of West Orange, Texas, Mildred Toot Bishop of Starks, Louisiana, Emma “DD” Miller of Richmond, Virginia, Elizabeth “TT” Farris of Groton, Connnecticut; brother, John Sonier of Orange, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
There will be visitation Thursday, March 21, 2013 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Dorman Funeral Home, Orange, Texas. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Friday, March 22, 2013 in the Chapel of Dorman Funeral Home, with Bro. David Baxley and Bro. W.W. Smith officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Bridge City, Texas. Honoring Buck as pallbearers will be Jeffrey Johnson, Aron Johnson, Adam Johnson, Trent Wagstaff, Justin Humphrey and Jack Restelle.
