VIDOR —
A local television personality is getting into the food business.
James Brown, a meteorologist for KFDM TV 6 and a well-respected cook in his own right, will be opening James Brown’s Gumbo House and Grill sometime this March. His new eatery will be located on North Main Street in Vidor at what is now Jody Leigh’s restaurant.
The sell of the restaurant was announced in a message on the Jody Leigh’s official Facebook page.
“For all of you wondering...the rumors are true! Jody Leigh’s is being sold to James Brown and he plans to open James Brown’s Gumbo House and Grill in March! We are still open for Business until the end of February! Thank you Vidor for 18 Great Years!”
The yet-to-be opened restaurant will serve a variety of food, specializing in Cajun and Creole, as well as seafood and “soul food,” according to James Brown’s Gumbo House and Grill official Facebook page. It will also feature items such as burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches and more.
Brown has worked with KFDM since 1990 and helps many Southeast Texans begin their days with his work on the “KFDM This Morning” at 5 a.m. each weekday.
He has also become quite popular with his entertaining cooking segments and has been hosting a cooking show at Market Basket for the past three years.
He recently released his second cook book aptly titled “Simma’ Down with James Brown.”
During the Vidor Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Banquet, which was held on Thursday night, the master of ceremonies of the event, Robby Steptoe, announced James Brown’s Gumbo House and Grill would officially open on Monday, March 4.
Messages left for Brown seeking comment were not immediately returned.
