VIDOR —
Investigators are asking for help from the public in identifying the man who robbed a bank in Vidor this past week.
The Vidor Police Department is attempting to identify the black male who robbed the BBVA Compass Bank at 855 N. Main St. in Vidor, next to McDonald’s, at approximately 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 23.
“He was wearing a hat that came down all the way past his ears and huge sunglasses that covered most of his face,” said Chief Dave Shows of the Vidor Police Department. “He was pretty well covered from head to toe.”
Video from the scene shows the man enter the front lobby doors of the bank at approximately 10 a.m., and literally runs across the lobby and vaults over the teller counter.
“He entered the bank at a dead run and basically leaped the counter like a person running hurdles,” Shows added. “He sure didn’t waste any time either. He was in the bank for maybe a total of 45 seconds.”
In a previous interview with The Orange Leader, authorities said the culprit was able to obtain an undetermined amount of cash before fleeing the scene. Witnesses stated the man reportedly got into a red vehicle and escaped.
“We had a vehicle we were searching for and we found it, but the person who that vehicle belongs too was where he was supposed to be at the time he was supposed to be there, so he is no longer a person of interest in this case,” Shows explained. “We are still looking for any tips or information that people may be able to give us on this case.”
The robbery at BBVA Compass Bank was the second such robbery in Vidor in a 10-day span. The MidSouth Bank location in the 1300 block of North Main in Vidor was the site of a robbery on Monday, Jan. 14. Police arrested David Randall Terrell of Nederland on Jan. 23 in Galveston and believe him to be the culprit involved in the MidSouth Bank robbery in Vidor and a BBVA Compass Bank location in Beaumont.
