VIDOR —
A storm knocked out power and blew off roofs in Vidor on Christmas.
The storm hit the area around noon on Tuesday, leaving some families displaced and others without power.
The Baskin’s Clothing Store and American Village apartments suffered damage as well as a trailer park at the 1300 block of Berry Road in Vidor.
“I was at a friend’s house celebrating Christmas when it happened,” Darlene Fountain said. “I was on my way home when I received a message that a tornado had hit the trailer park. My first thought was: ‘Oh no! Not again.”
Fountain had lost her home from tree and wind damage during Hurricane Rita in 2005.
Fountain said several trailers received damage during the storm, including one neighbor’s truck was crushed by a fallen tree.
“Fortunately, my trailer only lost the skirting and a shingle,” Fountain said. “My dogs were home and I was concerned for their safety.”
The manager of the trailer park cut the trees that were blocking the road so residents could enter the park to access their homes.
The Associated Press said is headed toward the Northeast, wrecking travel plans and knocking out power to thousands of homes.
At least six deaths are being blamed on the storm.
The storm will effect areas in the North still recovering from Hurricane Sandy.
