The Orange Leader
Carrie Joiner Woliver, former Orange resident and author of ‘The Train Stopped in Orange’, is holding a book-signing reception 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. Saturday, December 8, at The Old Orange Cafe, 914 West Division Street, for her newly published book.
Woliver, a 1959 graduate of Stark High School, returns with a non-fiction book based on the 1917-1918 diaries of her grandparents, Will and Pearl Joiner. The couple raised their family on Pine Street in Orange from the early 1900s to the late 1950s. The diaries provided a firsthand account of daily life of the times.
The Joiners lived one block from he Southern Pacific Train Depot in 1917 which teemed with activity when the train stopped in Orange and titled the book.
Woliver uncovered four diaries in her mother’s effects. The diaries provided such a treasure of trove of history that she knew she had to wrote the book.
Woliver also provides photos of old Orange and weathered clippings local residents will enjoy seeing.
