ORANGE —
An organization with a history of helping others received a helping hand of its own earlier this week.
The Orange Community Action Association, better known as “Meals on Wheels” to dozens of senior citizens across the area, was the recipient of a $40,000 grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation on Wednesday.
According to Linda Hughes, director of OCAA, the Wal-Mart Foundation sent the check through its state giving program to support OCAA’s “Senior Hunger Program,” which is striving to end senior hunger within the community.
“In the past year alone, we have experienced a 7.5 percent decrease in funding, across the board, from government funding sources,” Hughes said. “So this grant was a pleasant surprise when we checked the mail on Wednesday. With the cost of food and fuel prices being so high, this grant will really be a big help to us.”
