Orange County will see a larger sales tax rebate check in the mail this month, as sales tax revenues increased compared to last year.
Leading the way for the month was Rose City, which is seeing a 13 percent increase from what the city received a year ago. The city’s amazing turnaround began with the arrival of the Greyhound bus terminal this past spring as the city is now 3.33 percent ahead for the year.
The city with the biggest gain for the year-to-date is Vidor, which is 6.60 percent ahead of 2011 figures. The City of Vidor has only had one sales tax payment below the previous year’s figures in 2012. This month’s payment is 4.40 percent ahead of last year, or an increase of more than $9,200 for the month.
Bridge City has also shown considerable gains this year. The city recently received a payment of $131,000 this month, an increase of approximately $2,000 or 1.50 percent. The city of Bridge City is 4.69 percent ahead of 2012 figures.
Pinehurst and West Orange both remain ahead of 2011 figures for the year-to-date, but both received payments this month which were less than those posted one year ago.
The City of Orange showed a strong gain this month with a payment of $372,274.32, which is a 5.38 percent increase over the same time last year. However, the City of Orange remains 2.24 percent below 2011 figures for the year.
As a whole, Orange County is 1.51 percent ahead for 2011 sales tax figures for the year. This includes an increase of 2.83 percent for the month.
Texas Comptroller Susan Combs announced this week that state sales tax revenue in October was $2.03 billion, up 8.2 percent compared to October 2011.
“The state’s growth in sales tax revenue continued to be led by collections from the oil and natural gas-related sectors,” said Combs. “We also saw strong consumer spending drive gains in retail trade and the restaurant sector as well.”
