Primary run-off early voting results through Wednesday, July 25, 2012

ORANGE — The Primary Runoff elections are under way and, once again, the Republican party is receiving the majority of the votes.

Early voting for the Primary Runoff elections began Monday and continues from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., through Friday, July 27. Voting locations in Orange County are at the Orange Public Library, 220 N. Fifth St. in Orange; the Bridge City Public Works Building, 220 Nitsche in Bridge City; First Baptist Church, 11540 State Highway 12 in Mauriceville; and the Raymond Gould Community Center, 385 Claiborne St. in Vidor.

Only a handful of races from the May 29 Republican and Democratic Primary elections are requiring a runoff.

The sole runoff race in the Democratic Party is for United States Senator as Paul Sadler faces Grady Yarbrough.

A total of 349 ballots have been received through Wednesday.

A total of 37 ballots were received on Wednesday, and 43 were submitted on Tuesday, while 269 ballots were received on Monday. The bulk of the ballots, 288, have been received through the U.S. mail.

The Republican ballot has a total of four races in need of a runoff.

David Dewhurst and Ted Cruz are battling it out for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senator, while Warren Chisum and Christi Craddick face off for Railroad Commissioner. Greg Parker and Barry Smitherman are facing one another for an unexpired term for Railroad Commissioner.

In the race for Supreme Court Justice, Place, 4, John Devine is being contested by David Medina.

The race most eyes are focusing on in Orange County is for the newly created seat for United States Representative, District 36.

In May, a total of 12 Republican candidates had hopes of being the last person standing. However, when the dust cleared, it was decided a runoff would be needed between Steve Stockman and Stephen Takach.

A total of 1,242 ballots have been received through Wednesday. A total of 310 ballots were submitted Wednesday, and another 348 ballots were received on Tuesday, while Monday’s ballot count was 583. A majority of the ballots, 461, were received through the U.S. mail.
