PORT ARTHUR — Weekend repairs to a section of the Union Pacific Railroad system will temporarily close an important rail crossing in Port Arthur. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) says the work involves repairs to the crossing on State Highway 82 immediately north of State Highway 87.
Union Pacific workers will close the crossing beginning 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, for approximately 12 hours. The railroad says the work includes re-planking the crossing and expects the project to be finished by 8 p.m. that same evening.
TxDOT says motorists can expect delays and detours during the work. Motorists traveling State Highway 82 should follow the marked detours, watch for workers and allow for extra travel time.
The work is taking place during the weekend to keep from interfering with rush-hour week-day traffic. While TxDOT is assisting with traffic control, Union Pacific is responsible for repairs to the crossing.
