BCISD to hold ‘Parent Fair’

BRIDGE CITY —

Parents of students in the Bridge City Independent School District will have the luxury of gathering useful information for the remainder of the school year at a meeting next Monday.
Bridge City ISD will hold a parent fair with sessions being offered at 6:30 p.m., and 7:05 p.m., Monday, Oct. 22. at Bridge City High School. This event is for parents of students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.
The event begins at 5:45 p.m., Monday, in the cafeteria with pizza and drinks followed by a “welcome” message from Mike King, Bridge City ISD superintendent, at 6 p.m., and a brief chat with Paul Davis, Chief of the Bridge City Police Department to follow.
“We tried an event like this last May, before the end of school, and it went very well,” King said. “We want to continue to build that relationship between the parents and the school. This event will let parents ask us questions about a variety of topics and get the information straight from the source.”
Topics for the session include “Parent Internet Access to Student Info,” “Guide for Spanish Speakers,” “Alcohol Awareness,” “Study Skills for the BCE Student,” “Homework Help for the BCI Student,” “Ensuring Success for your BCMS Student” and “Information for BCHS Students.”
Whether its learning how to access information online to keep up-to-date on student grades, learning how to help with an elementary student’s homework binder, technology aides, study strategies or SAT and ACT testing information, it will be covered in this “Parent Fair” on Monday.
“We just want to be able to help the parents help their children get off to a great start for the school year,” King added. “Our teachers will cover all the topics and provide the information. It just a way for us to continue to make parents feel comfortable with the school and that relationship we have because we all wants the kids to be successful.”
King said this is just the first in a series of such “Parent Fairs” the district will hold. He expects others to be held in January or February and again in May of 2013.
All parents are invited to remain for the “Community Pep Rally” at 8 p.m., Monday, for the traditional “Burning of the Letters” as Bridge City celebrates “Homecoming Week” leading up to the football game on Friday, Oct. 26.
