What is God like?

ORANGE — Perhaps the greatest mystery that has puzzled mankind from the beginning of humankind’s ability to grasp its resources to question its life form including its origin and to wonder if there may be a divine connection that could help explain its life and death and, therefore, to ask the question: Is there a God? If so, what is He like? Can I know Him? How can I know Him?

As a result, mankind has found there are many gods, or divinities, both on earth and in the heavens such as the sun, moon, stars, and even in various seasons not to mention in storms, and winds. In so doing they have learned how to placate these gods, how to pay due homage to them, how to coexist with them. This is true in so-called “third-world countries” and it is equally true here in the USA.

Many people will acknowledge there is “a higher power.”

Some will even remark of there being “the man upstairs.” Both are missing the truth that spells the difference between eternal life and eternal death.  God IS. He is living, personal, relational, active. He is the God who seeks to have a personal relationship with everyone. He is not the mystery some make Him out to be. Can you know Him? Yes. How? It’s this simple: to know Jesus Christ is to know God.

God has, “in these last days spoken unto us by his Son… [Who is] the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person” (Hebrews 1:2,3).

He is “the image of the invisible God… For it pleased the Father [God] that in him should all fullness dwell” (Colossians 1:15,19).

What is God like? Jesus said, “If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father [God] also… he that hath seen me hath seen the Father [God].” (John 14: 7,9].

Everything Jesus said and did, as found in the New Testament, is what the Father [God] is willing to do. Is Jesus compassionate? God is. Does Jesus care about your personal needs, fears, worries, and anxieties? God the Father does also. Jesus said, “As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love” (John 15:9).
