Former WO-S administrator dies
The West Orange-Cove Consolidated Independent School District lost a former leader Thursday as Lennie Paul Dauphine died at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
Dauphine spent 33 years at WO-C CISD and began his teaching career at Bishop Bryne High School. Dauphine retired as a Mustang in 1998.
Dauphine taught history and government before becoming an assistant principal.
“We missed him when he left in 1998 and we will certainly miss him now,” WO-S athletic director Dan Hooks said. “He was a good guy. He was fair with the kids yet would also discipline them when the time called for it. If you asked the students, they would say he was firm but fair. He was also real supportive of our athletic program. West Orange lost one of its true leaders on Thursday. We never really truly knew how much we would miss him until he was gone.”
Dauphine was born on December 21, 1940, in Port Arthur. He graduated from Bishop Bryne High School and then received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Government and History from Lamar University in 1965. He later received his Master of Education Degree in Administration from Stephen F. Austin State Universityin 1969.
Dauphine is survived by two sisters, Donna Allen and Nancy Schroeder; and one sister-in-law, Louise Dauphine; two brothers, Chester Dauphine and his wife Elsie and Allen Dauphine and his wife Martha Dell. Dauphine had one surrogate son, Sammy Hall and his wife Kathryn. He is also survived by three surrogate grandchildren, Brandon Hall, Baylie Hall and Cody Benge; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A visitation will be held from 5:00-9:00 pm Sunday with a Rosary at 6:00 pm, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday at 10:00 am, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Orange. Internment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Groves.
Those serving as Pallbearers will be his nephews, Nathan Allen, Jacob Allen, Wayne Schroeder, Damian Dauphine, Terry Dauphine and close friends, Russell Melancon and Shon Hodgkinson.
