ORANGE —
A week remains in the filing period for the May election and several races are beginning to take shape. As of Friday, six of the city councils and school boards in Orange County look to have an election on May 11, 2013.
Orange
The City of Orange will be one of at least six elections this May. The District 2 incumbent, Cullen Smith, will be opposed by challenger Tommy Ferguson, while Annette Pernell, incumbent for District 4, will be opposed by Mary McKenna.
Bill Mello, the incumbent for at-large Position 5, is currently unopposed.
West Orange
The City of West Orange will also be having an election this May as resident Wayne Wiggins will challenge incumbents Mike Trahan and Charles Winter for a spot on city council. Mayor Roy McDonald is currently unopposed.
Bridge City
An election is on tap in Bridge City as well with two council positions having races this year.
Kevin Mott, Place 1 incumbent, will be opposed by former councilperson Lucy Fields this May, and Robert Simonton Jr., the Place 3 councilman, will take on challenger Steve Quibodeaux. Richard Savoy, Place 5 incumbent, is currently unopposed.
Vidor
The City of Vidor will also have an election this year, and it’s a battle for the top spot.
Incumbent Mayor Ken Crawford has filed to seek re-election and he will be opposed by current Ward 6 councilman, Trey Haney. Candidate Robert Viator Jr. has filed for the Ward 6 seat.
Incumbents Lynda Courtney and Mallie Bickham, Ward 1 and Ward 4, respectively, have yet to file for re-election and no new challengers have come forward as of Friday.
Pinehurst
Incumbent councilmen Dan Barclay, Matt Chandler and Dan Mohon have all filed for re-election in Pinehurst. No other candidates have filed.
Rose City
Filing for open positions in Rose City has been slow thus far, as only Mayor David Bush has filed for re-election. Incumbents Hernando Ramos and Chad Landry have yet to file, nor have any new candidates.
Pine Forest
Filings for the City of Pine Forest happened all at once, at the beginning of the filing period, and none since that time.
Incumbent Mayor Joe Peno and Jason Dunwoody, Place 5 incumbent, have both filed for re-election, while candidate Darrell E. Talcott has filed for the Place 1 seat currently held by John Davis, who has yet to file.
LC-M CISD
The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Consolidated Independent School District looks to have an election this May as two new candidates, Ron Borel and Blake Istre, face off for the Position 7 seat, which is currently held by Jason Woods. As of Friday, Woods has not filed for re-election.
Rex Peveto has filed for re-election to the Position 6 seat and remains unopposed as of Friday.
Vidor ISD
The Vidor Independent School District will once again be having an election in the month of May.
Candidates Dennis Hill and David Camp have both filed for the Position 3 seat on the Board of Trustees and will apparently face one another this May. Sheila Sarver, the Position 3 incumbent, has not filed for another term as of Friday.
Mike Kilmer, the Position 4 incumbent, is currently unopposed in his bid for re-election and the Position 5 seat, currently held by Michael Quinn, remains open with no filings at all.
Bridge City ISD
All incumbents on the Board of Trustees in the Bridge City Independent School have filed for re-election.
Rebecca Rutledge, Place 3, Thad Hill, Place 4, and Jerry McInnis, Place 5, have all filed for another term and all remain unopposed as of Friday.
WO-C CISD
The West Orange-Cove Consolidated Independent School District’s Board of Trustees has three at-large council positions up for election this year.
As of Friday all three incumbents, which include Harry Barclay, Ricky Jacobs and Hardy O’Neal, have filed for re-election. All remain unopposed at this time.
The filing period for city council seats and school board positions continues through 5 p.m., Friday, March 1.
