ORANGE —
The Lamar State College-Orange Quiz Bowl Team traveled to St. Louis, Mo., this past weekend for the NAQT Community College Championship Tournament. After a grueling weekend of competition, the LSC-O team finished the tournament with a 9-2 win/loss record, and came home with the third place trophy. They “lost” only to the top two finalists, Chipola College and Valencia College, both from Florida.
By finishing within the top six schools, the LSC-O team has been invited to the NAQT Intercollegiate Championship Tournament to be held in April in Chicago. This tournament is the national competition for four-year schools, which is who LSC-O, a two-year school, will now be competing against.
Senior Jefffree Hoke finished as the 12th Place scorer in the tournament and was named to the tournament’s All-Star team. Sarah Leger had a “career-high” game as the 21st Place individual scorer. Jacob Gorton made major contributions and was the 25th Place individual scorer, and members Jerad Jurgensmier and Shane Marburger also made timely contributions to the team’s success.
“This is truly a momentous achievement and mere words cannot fully express how proud I am of our team’s achievement,” said Eric Owens, Quiz Bowl sponsor and LSC-O assistant professor of history. “Please extend your congratulations to these students when you see them.”
