ORANGE —
A team of three West Orange – Stark Elementary students will compete in the Texas Computer Education Association Robotics State Meet. In order to earn the state qualification, the team of Ethan Estrada, Victoria Vela, and Nicholas Provost won second place in the invention competition of the regional robotics competition held in late January.
The team competed against other students in grades three through eight from Region 5. Their “Sharp Bot” lego invention was designed to grab a pencil from a straw dispenser, place it into a sharpener, sharpen the pencil and roll back, then drop the pencil and start over in order to sharpen multiple pencils.
A West Orange – Stark Middle School team also earned honors at the regional meet. The team of Derrion Chargois, Alexis Sterling, Jay’zn Robinson, and David Sargent won the Best Design Award for their arena robot.
West Orange – Stark Elementary teams also placed 4th in Arena competition; as well as 4th, 5th and 8th in invention competition.
The team of Dax Fregia and Jacob Dominguez placed fourth in the arena event.
The WO-S Elementary invention teams which placed were:
Kaela Forward, Darian Hardin, Tiger Carpenter – 4th place, Clothes Master invention
Jalen Jones, Grace Gossard, Landon Lucia, and Austin Russell – 5th place, DJ’s Pizza Maker invention
Brandon Pennington and Jamar Brown – 8th place, The Leaf Raker invention
Sam Conner, Katie Kornegay, Amy Craig, and Patricia Lee are the West Orange – Stark Elementary Robotics sponsors. Maria Ellis is the West Orange – Stark Elementary Middle School Robotics sponsor.
The Robotics State Meet will be held April 13 at Deer Park High School.
