Beaumont man dies after equipment fails
A 34-year-old Beaumont man was crushed under the weight of a dump truck trailer about 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Martin Alanzo Sandaval was pronounced dead at the scene by Precinct 2 Judge Derry Dunn. An autopsy has been ordered.
The incident occurred under the Neches River Bridge in Rose City. Investigators determined Sandaval was working with a construction crew hauling debris to a dumpsite at the location. He had crawled under the dump truck style trailer which was attached to his pickup truck to do some repairs. Sandaval was under the trailer when the hydraulic system failed which caused the bed of the trailer to fall. He was pinned beneath the frame of the trailer and the bed. He died at the scene as a result of his injuries, according to information from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
The Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene and conducted the investigation. At this time there does not appear to be any signs of foul play and it appears to be an accident.
The investigation is ongoing by the Criminal Investigations Division.
