Section of Vidor under boil water notice
VIDOR — A major water leak has placed more than 150 customers of Orange County Water Control and Improvement District number 1 under a boil water notice.
Orange County WC&ID; 1 issued a boil water notice Monday morning for the area known as Bahama Heights, which is an area located just off State Highway 12 in Vidor. Customers who reside on Bahama Drive, Ricky Lane, Aery Road, Aloha Drive and Nassau Road are affected by this notice.
According to Darlene Jackson, manager of the water district, a major leak on a broken water main was found on New Year’s Eve and temporary repairs were made at that time to get customers through the weekend.
“We tried not to disrupt service to our customers over the holiday weekend,” Jackson said. “We thought it would be best to wait until (Monday), so it might affect less people.”
Jackson said a broken “T-junction” was to blame for the leak, and repairs were going to be extensive.
“That is why our crews did a patch job initially,” Jackson said. “We had to take it all apart to repair it.”
Jackson said between 150 to 200 customers were affected by Monday’s boil water notice, including a mobile home park on Aery Road.
Jackson said once repairs were made as of late Monday afternoon, the district would flush the water lines and send a water sample off for testing.
“If the testing comes back fine (today), then we will rescind the boil water notice,” Jackson added. “The sample has already been sent to Orange, so now we are just waiting to hear the results.”
