Stockwell appointed to vacant council seat in RC
ROSE CITY — City council members welcomed its newest member at its most recent meeting.
Lana Stockwell was unanimously selected at the most recent Rose City city council meeting to fill the At-Large seat which was vacated by Amanda Stockwell in September. Lana Stockwell will occupy the At-Large seat until May, when the unexpired term will be placed on the ballot.
Stockwell, 32, who regularly attended Rose City council meetings as a citizen, was nominated in November by councilmember Delores Barras.
“She comes to the meetings on a pretty regular basis and she kind of knows what the city is doing right now,” said Mayor David Bush. “She has an idea of what projects we are working on and what grants we are going after, so that should benefit her instead of coming in cold. We’re looking forward to working with her on city council.”
Rose City is a small community, just west of Vidor, with a population of approximately 620 people and covers 1.7 square miles. This is another reason Bush said council was pleased to welcome Stockwell to the group.
“It’s very hard to find someone to run for office in a small community like ours, much less someone who attends most of the meetings as a citizen,” Bush added. “By attending so many of the regular meetings, she may know more than the average citizen and that could be very helpful to council through the remainder of this term.”
