Double homicide big story in June
Vidor woman, friend shot; husband accepts life without parole
Editor’s note: This story first appeared in the June 7, 2009 edition of The Orange Leader and concluded when Martin Fox was sentenced on Nov. 18, 2009.
Orange County had its share of crime and tragedy in 2009, but one of the most horrific events of the year was a double homicide.
In the early morning hours of June 7, Candy Renee Fox, 40, was gunned down by her estranged husband, Martin Fox in Vidor. Also killed at the scene was Candy Renee Fox’s best friend, Christina Marie Adams.
Martin Fox had reportedly been waiting for the women to return late that night and, when they arrived, he reportedly opened fire with a revolver striking the women in their heads and chests as they sat in the vehicle.
Witnessing the event was the estranged couple’s 17-year-old son, who fled the scene and called for help. Fox later turned himself in to the Vidor Police Department.
Candy Fox was in the process of filing for divorce following a one-year separation. The couple had reportedly been married more than 20 years.
Candy Fox and Adams were co-workers for several years at LifeShare Blood Centers in Beaumont. Candy Fox was the receptionist while Adams worked to ensure the blood products got to area hospitals.
In July 2009, Fox was charged with Capital Murder, but, when the case was slated to head to trial in November, he agreed to accept a sentence of life without parole on the capital murder charges if the state of Texas would not pursue the death penalty. Fox also waived his right to appeal the sentence.
