Altrusa Club delivers donation to special child
The women of the Altrusa Club met Thursday evening for their annual fundraiser.
In addition, the club presented a check to Rebecca Greer, a local physical therapist, for the purchase of special equipment needed for a child with Spina Bifida.
The money was collected during their annual chili fundraiser. The ladies of the club cooked more than 30 gallons of chili. To make the 250 containers of chili they first cooked 80 pounds of ground beef and 40 pounds of rice.
But, the women of the Altrusa Club are involved with other activities in the community as well.
Some of the service projects include literacy programs such as donating to the Bridge City Library, scholarship programs, holiday gift baskets and donations to CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) for bicycles and to other service organizations.
The Altrusa Club of Orange began in 1949 with the motto of patriotism, efficiency, and service with the continuing theme of “Leaders in Service”. They fulfill the motto and theme though civic activities, service projects and various programs.
Membership to the club is extended to women who have been classified as achievers in the community along with leadership talents and a strong sense of responsibility to the community.
