The Orangefield man who disappeared on October 27 has been found.
Jay Dee Herrmann, 41, was located in another state and is “alive and well,” according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
Herrmann had applied for help with a social services organization and when they called to verify his information at his previous employer they were informed he had been reported missing. The employer then called investigators and they were able to learn of his location.
Herrmann informed the investigators he plans to start his life over at his new location. But, he asked officials not to reveal his location to his wife. Although, he has contacted his mother and aunt and they are aware of his location.
“I am glad he’s ok,” said Lori Herrmann, Jay Herrmann’s wife. “I just wish he would have said something before he left.”
On the day he left, Jay Herrmann kissed his wife of 9 years good-bye, told her he loved her and would be back in a few hours. The couple had been arguing that morning, but Jay Herrmann said they would talk about it when he returned.
Lori Herrmann fell asleep waiting for her husband’s return. When she awoke a few hours later and he still was not there she thought to herself “he still must be mad.” He had disappeared once before, but returned a few days later. But, as the days turned into weeks, she worried that something had happened to him.
“I still love him, but I understand that he didn’t want to talk,” Lori Herrmann said.
Jay Herrmann not only didn’t initially talk to his wife, but also his place of employment and the National Guard in Port Neches. Herrmann has served for 22 years and is a Desert Storm veteran. The National Guard still has him listed as AWOL and according to Sgt. Harrison, they will continue to do so until he shows up for drills. But, since he has dedicated so much time to the military they are willing to work with him in regards to charges and his retirement.
Lori Herrmann hopes he will get the message.
“If you read this just know we love you and wish you well,” she said.
