RAYNE, La. (AP) — Louisiana State Police say two people died in a five-vehicle crash on Interstate 10.
The crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. Sunday between Rayne and Crowley in Acadia Parish.
Troopers say the preliminary investigation suggests a pickup truck driven by 56-year-old Kenneth Hicks of Northport, Ala., crossed the median, sideswiping an eastbound car.
The pickup truck began flipping and struck another pickup truck traveling eastbound driven by 49-year-old Billy Nelms of Orange, Texas. Troopers Hicks and Nelms were pronounced dead at the scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner.
Investigators say an eastbound 18-wheel truck jackknifed into the median while trying to avoid the crash and another passenger car was hit by debris from the initial accident.
