Pinehurst is getting ready for an event all of Orange County is preparing to host in March.
“Thank you Pinehurst for all you are doing to beautify your city,” said Lee Ann Fuselier from the Greater Orange Chamber of Commerce.
Fuselier spoke to the council about the upcoming Bassmaster Elite Tournament and Orange County Riverfront Festival.
“The event will happen during Spring Break,” Fuselier said. “This would be a great time to save your money and stay right here in Orange County for a vacation.”
City Administrator Joe Parkhurst asked about the expected influx of people to the area during the event.
An estimated 12-15 thousand people throughout the tournament are expected.
The council was present with the findings of the annual audit by Alan Sanderson of Sanderson, Knox and Company,
Sanderson said the city was showing conservative fund management.
“Conservative is right where you want to be,” Sanderson said.
City Councilman Dan Barclay said it has taken a four to five year process to get to this point.
The council agreed to an Interlocal Agreement between the city and Orange County Emergency Services District #3 for providing daytime staffing for the Pinehurst Volunteer Fire Department.
The cost will be $28,000 a year to cover the $13 an hour to the services of the fireman.
“If volunteers increase, we can give notice to end the contract,” Parkhurst said.
The City of Pinehurst recently had a TCEQ inspection on the sewer system.
“It was our annual inspection,” Parkhurst said. “We did amazingly well.”
There was on citation for the need of an audible alarm on a lift bridge.
“An electrician we spoke with said he could do it for under $200,” Parkhurst said. “It will be done in the next week.”
Parkhurst also said that with the completion of the next grant, there will not be as many problems with the lifts.
Progress on the remodeling of the Pinehurst Fire Station could be completed as early as next Friday.
Barclay said he attended the FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps public open house held on Jan. 15 and 16 in Bridge City.
“There was a good turnout,” Barclay said. “Harry and I are checking into some changes made to the maps as I am not sure they are correct.”
Changes would need to be made before the maps are finalized.
Councilman John Zerko, during the comments and requests from the council, asked about erecting a sign pointing to Woodlark to ease confusion for those traveling from the Interstate.
