A vacant home on 10th Street in Orange was destroyed following an early morning fire Wednesday.
The Orange Fire Department answered the call of a structure fire shortly after 3:30 a.m., Wednesday at 1117 10th St. in Orange and arrived to find a house fully engulfed in flames.
According to information provided by Deputy Fire Chief Jerald Ziller, the first firefighters which arrived at the scene were forced to take a defensive stance to protect nearby home due to the size and intensity of the fire.
Additional units from the West Orange Volunteer Fire Department and Pinehurst Volunteer Fire Department were called in to assist and, once those units were on the scene, firefighters tackled the blaze with heavy water streams and were able to quickly extinguish the fire.
The owner of the house lived next door, according to Ziller, and confirmed the property was indeed vacant at the time of the fire.
Ziller said the Fire Marshal who was called to the scene has determined the fire to be suspicious in nature and remains under investigation.
Authorities are seeking information on the fire and any person or persons who may have been seen in the area at approximately 3 a.m. Call 409-883-1050 with information.
Fire crews cleared the scene at approximately 6:30 a.m., Wednesday.
