BEAUMONT —
The Symphony of Southeast Texas invites the community to come get their sway on at the highly anticipated Pops Concert “A Gospel Celebration” at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Julie Rogers Theatre in Beaumont.
For this spirit-filled concert, the Symphony of Southeast Texas (SOST) orchestra will be joined by the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church choir. Selections include: “Ride on, King Jesus,” “Amazing Grace,” “Hallelujah!” and more.
“We have chosen some wonderful gospel pieces and created an inspiring program, and we are very excited to be collaborating with Antioch for this concert,” said SOST Music Director Chelsea Tipton.
Maestro Tipton has directed gospel music concerts with several orchestras in other areas, and is finally bringing the concert style to Beaumont. He has been named the “gospel specialist” and an “ebullient expert in gospel music” by reviewers in Atlanta, where he has guest-conducted the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in their gospel concert for several years.

The Symphony of Southeast Texas celebrates “A Sparkling 60th Season of Symphonic Sounds” in 2012-2013. Since the inaugural performance of the Beaumont Symphony Orchestra on May 12, 1953, the organization has continued to uphold its mission of presenting educational, entertaining, and culturally enriching programs of the highest artistic quality to the Southeast Texas community.
