Suspects use a boat to burglarize a building
At approximately 1:30pm on Tuesday officers of the West Orange Police Department responded to a burglary in progress call at a residence.
When the officer arrived, it was learned that a short time earlier a homeowner had arrived at their residence and saw two white males running towards Adams Bayou from the property.
The homeowner continued watching the suspects as they climbed into an aluminum boat that was in the water behind the home and left the scene by waterway.
Information compiled at the scene revealed that the suspects were in the process of stealing miscellaneous items from a storage building on the property. West Orange Fire Marshall Dean Fuller and Detective Sam Carpenter immediately commandeered a boat and began a search of Adams Bayou and the surrounding cuts throughout the bayou.
During the search along the bayou, witness information gathered by Fuller and Carpenter led to the discovery of the boat that was used during the burglary and it was located behind a residence on Georgia St. in the Cove area. Subsequent information gathered at that residence by investigators resulted in the identification of the three males that were involved in the burglary. Assistance in this case was provided by officers with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the Orange Police Department. The case is currently under investigation and charges are expected to be filed with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
