WEST ORANGE —
Police believe they have their man following a credit union robbery which occurred in early September.
The West Orange Police Department issued a statement late Friday announcing the arrest of Orange County resident Justin Samuel Mink. Mink was arrested on Nov. 11 on unrelated charges.
At approximately 9:30 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 6, an unidentified man using a pistol grip shotgun robbed Firestone Credit Union, located at the corner of MacArthur Drive and Broad Street in West Orange. The armed robber was wearing dark-colored nomex, a maroon ski mask, gloves and sunglasses and carrying the shotgun.
The unidentified man, which police believe to Mink, was also carrying a camouflage duffle bag. He demanded money from the tellers on duty, grabbed the bag and fled the scene on foot as he ran behind Domino’s pizza and Aarons Rent-to-Own which are also located on MacArthur Drive.
The credit union was occupied by three tellers, two other employees and one customer at the time of the robbery.
According to the press release, the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) has filed a federal complaint with the United States Attorney’s Office following the findings of investigators with the West Orange Police Department.
Mink, 26, is still incarcerated at the Orange County Jail and is awaiting transfer to the U.S. Marshall’s Service for the robbery of Firestone Credit Union.
Police are still asking anyone with information related to this crime to call the West Orange Police Department at 409-883-0059.
