ORANGE —
One firefighter suffered minor injuries and a family’s home sustained extensive damage in a fire on Sunday.
Capt. Kim LeJeune of the Orange Fire Department was slightly injured while battling a structure fire Sunday afternoon at 2110 International in Orange. LeJeune, who helped lead the initial attack against the house fire, was treated at the scene by emergency personnel with Acadian Ambulance Service and released to return and continue to fight the fire.
The Orange Fire Department answered the call of a house fire at approximately 4:45 p.m., Sunday, and arrived at the scene in less than two minutes. Crews arriving reported heavy smoke coming from the eves of the house and fire at the rear of the structure. The fire was quickly extinguished, but the house sustained heavy damage. According to Deputy Fire Chief Jerald Ziller, the fire was concentrated in a bedroom but other areas of the house sustained moderate to considerable smoke damage.
Ziller stated the family, which was not injured, was already outside at the time fire crews arrived on Sunday. The extensive damage to the house will prohibit the family from staying at its residence for now. The family is currently staying with other family members locally.
Ziller stated the cause of the fire has been determined to be “unintentional” but the “exact cause” remains under investigation.
