ORANGE —
The presents have been exchanged, some of the toys have broken and some have made their way back to stores for a different size or color. Some of you may have taken down the Christmas decorations, for the secular world Christmas is over; ready to be put up out of the way and out of mind.
But for the church, Christmas is just the beginning of the story. Let me put it this way, we could equate Christmas to a young couple getting ready to have their first child. They buy clothes and a baby bed; prepare a room to be the nursery. But the real story begins when they bring the little baby home. That is when their lives change. That is when they direct their attention on the defenseless baby.
Christmas in the church is when we redirect our lives to fit the needs of Jesus. As 2012 closes, I like to look back over the year and see if there are adjustments in my life to be made. For those Mayan calendar readers who packed their bags for the end of the world, I have one suggestion; if you live each day in a way that is pleasing to God, you do not have to worry when the end comes for you have prepared your boarding pass by the way you treat others. What will God do through you in 2013?
