ORANGE —
An Orange family received word from a neighbor that their home was on fire Wednesday morning.
The City of Orange Fire Department responded to an automatic fire alarm activation at the 1900 block of International Drive at 10:15 a.m.
The first fire units to arrive reported heavy fire and smoke coming from the rear of the residence according to a press release.
Fire crews quickly learned that the family that lived in the home had left a short time before. The fire spread quickly to the second story, fanned by a strong north wind.
It took over 30 minutes to bring the fire under control.
The family was notified by neighbors that their home was on fire and returned before fire crews had the fire under control. The family of five was devastated by the extent of the fire damage.
No injuries were reported as a direct result from the fire yet two of the family members were treated by Acadian Ambulance service for non-life threatening conditions.
A spectator at the scene was also treated by Acadian for an injury sustained when they fell on the street and injured their nose.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation yet it was determined to be unintentional. The home was insured and the agent was at the scene.
Fire crews remained on the scene for over four hours insuring all fire was extinguished and the family was cared for.
