The South East Texas Regional Planning Commission’s Transportation and Environmental Division is gathering public comment on general activities related to public transit planning. These activities are related to strategies for increasing the availability and efficiency of public transportation services for all neighborhoods and communities in Jefferson, Orange, and Hardin Counties.
SETRPC is seeking input from residents to develop strategies that provide transportation for the southeast Texas three county region. Community input is critical in order to develop strategies that meet the actual needs of the community. Meetings begin Monday, March 18, providing citizens in Jefferson, Orange and Hardin Counties the opportunity to provide comments on their transit needs.
“This is an opportunity for the public to give their thoughts on where transit services are needed the most, making the best use of our region’s resources”, Bob Dickinson, Director of Transportation and Environmental Resources for SETRPC said.
A meeting for the Orange County residents is 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 19 at the Orange Public Library at 220 North 5th Street in Orange.
The meeting will be held in conjunction as a meeting concerning the Exempt Project Metropolitan Transportation Plan 2035 and revisions to the Exempt Project FY 2013-2016 Transportation Improvement Program.
“Public input is an essential part of this process and we want to make sure the needs of our region are properly addressed,” Dickinson said.
The The 30-day public comment period is being held March 4 - April 2, 2013 for the Exempt Project Metropolitan Transportation Plan 2035 and revisions to the Exempt Project FY 2013-2016 Transportation Improvement Program. The public is encouraged to attend a meeting or provide written comments by 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013.
These meetings are designed to solicit resident’s ideas and input on possible transit changes and improvements that can help create better connections throughout the region. All meetings are the same and
are not restricted to a specific area. The public is strongly encouraged to be an active part of this process by selecting a meeting day and time that fits their schedule. 2 p.m Monday, March 18 at South East Texas Regional Planning Commission, 2210 Eastex Freeway in Beaumont.
4 p.m. Tuesday, March 19 at Orange Public Library, 220 North 5th Street in Orange.
2 p.m. Wednesday, March 20 at Port Arthur Public Library, 4615 9th Avenuein Port Arthur.
5 p.m. Thursday, March 21 at Lumberton City Hall, 836 North Main in Lumberton.
