ORANGE —
For the second time this summer the organizers of the Orange County Sheriff’s Posse Rodeo have been forced to postpone the annual event due to inclement weather conditions. A third attempt will be made in September.
The rodeo, which was originally scheduled to be held in July and postponed to Aug. 24 and Aug. 25, has been rescheduled once again.. The rodeo will now be held at 8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 15, and 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 16.
“We’ve never had this happen in our history,” said Becky Rhoden of the Orange County Sheriff’s Posse on rescheduling the event twice in one summer. “We didn’t have much choice. We received about two-inches of rain, minimum, just through early Friday.”
The yearly event features many of the best cowboys and cowgirls in the region as they compete in events like bullriding, steer wrestling, barrel racing, and calf roping and more.
Rhoden said organizers felt there was little choice and felt the welfare of rodeo guests and its participants was more important than attempting to maintain its schedule for the rodeo.
“We just couldn’t take the chance,” Rhoden added. “I’m just shocked, but what do you do. We can’t control Mother Nature.”
