ORANGE —
Usually love is associated with softness and weakness. Seldom do we think of conquering with love. When we are attacked or wrong actions are released against us, we tend to think of ways to pressure or force people to do right. We find a “hammer” lawyer, take away payment, or get the support of a large group behind us. More sinister minds like mine might think of sabotage or booby traps.
When Almighty God was faced with human rebellion and hate He had every right to use unbelievable force, but He chose the greatest weapon of all. He chose to change men’s hearts with love.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son....”
Not to straighten us out with heaven’s armies, but to pay our debt by dying in our place. Why? Because God knows that love is the greatest force in His creation.
God’s plan to win the world was to love it to death.
When naked savages in the jungle of Ecuador were approached with presents and kindness from five young missionaries, they did what their fears and instincts told them. They slaughtered the five young men. They would die before being conquered. But when the wives and children of some of these men returned to live with them, learn their language, put it down in written form, teach them to read it, and then began translating the scriptures into it, love won. Their ignorance was conquered by love and nearly all accepted Christ.
When you feel defeated, helpless, and attacked by those you associate with, attack them God’s way with love.
“Most of all love each other as if your life depended on it. Love makes up for practically anything.” (I Peter 4:8 MSG); “....conquer evil by doing good.” (Romans 12:21 TLB)
Don’t try it and say it didn’t work. Do it!
Keep doing it for as long as it takes. You can’t lose when you choose God’s weapons.
