Project manager hired for levee system project
The first step toward building a levee system to protect the citizens of Orange County has been taken. Now comes the hard work.
Bobby Fillyaw, executive director of the Orange County Economic Development Corporation, announced Wednesday the hiring of an engineering firm to serve as the levee project manager.
Carroll and Blackman, Inc., based in Beaumont, Texas, has been contracted by the Orange County EDC to begin moving the project forward, and it will partner with LEAP Engineering and Costello Engineering, both of Houston.
“This was a great hire for us,” Fillyaw said of the new project manager and its partners. “They bring a number of resources that will help us prepare and plan for this type of project, such as grant writers, people who find funding sources and more than 100 engineers.”
Fillyaw said the hiring of the project manager is just the first step in a journey which is expected to take years upon years before it is ever completed.
“By no means is Orange County ready to hire workers and start building a levee system,” Fillyaw added. “This part of the project alone will take years to complete. The construction part of the project is the easy part. The hard part is getting there.”
