ORANGE —
In the movie Bad Boyz II there is a scene where Martin Lawrence is distraught over the fact that his sister has been kidnapped by a Cubin drug lord and the state department is standing fast on the fact of not negotiating with terrorist or drug kingpins.
Martin at this point is upset with his partner Will Smith for not telling him that he (Will) has been seeing his sister (Gabriel Union).
Despite the tension and beef between them, Will moves to comfort his partner and friend and speaks the words that ring out so powerful, “WE RIDE TOGETHER, WE DIE TOGETHER.”
In spite of the challenges of whether Will should have told Martin the partnership (convenience) moves to a relationship (commitment). It would have been very easy for Will to hide behind the fact that Martin was upset with him, commitment caused Will to focus on what is truly important.
Commitment is contagious and while Martin and Will are in the room considering how to rescue Gabriel, the DEA, FBI, CIA, ATF and the rest of the alphabets come through the door and make another profound statement, “looks like you’re about to do something stupid, count us in.”
When we are committed, others who may not be will be drawn to be committed to/with us. Commitment to ride together or die together goes into motion and Gabriel is rescued. How many of our love ones are being held captive by depression, drug addiction, poor low or no self-esteem? How many people we know are in situations that are leading to sure destruction? Are our schools, communities and households being attached by gangs, drugs, and economic enemies?
It’s time for more of the body of Christ to commit and step up and unite. Are we ready to ride or die? Jesus made that commitment to rescue us from the sting of eternal death and darkness. Where would we be if commitment didn’t come and recuse us? Where would we be if dad, mom, or grandmother didn’t except the challenge to ride or die you and me?
City of Orange beware, there is a move of commitment, a movement of the body of Christ that is coming through willing to ride or die for our community.
Are you willing to be a part of “Committed Community”, ride or die……you choose!!!
