ORANGE —
A man working at Signal International was injured Sunday morning following an explosion at the facility.
An unidentified man, working as subcontractor at Signal International, Inc. in downtown Orange, was injured Sunday morning following the explosion of a low-pressure, high volume air bag.
According to a person with knowledge of the situation who wished to remain anonymous, the injured man, who was working for a contract company and not a Signal International employee, was injured at approximately 9 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 2.
The large air bag, which was being used to roll a large barge into the water, was punctured and sent the man hurtling into a jack stand which was used in the process of lifting the barge. It was reported the man was thrown approximately 30 feet.
Reports indicate the man did not suffer any head injuries nor lost consciousness, but he did receive a broken arm and broken leg.
The worker was transported by a medical helicopter to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
