Vidor man arrested for theft

VIDOR — Cutting grass was apparently on one man’s “to-do” list this past weekend.

The Vidor Police Department arrested Sammy Ashworth late Saturday, May 26, for theft after a home owner in the 300 block of West Bolivar stated his lawnmower was stolen by the culprit. Ashworth as also charged with public intoxication.

The unidentified home-owner reported they witnessed Ashworth removing a 22-inch cut red and black Murray lawnmower from underneath the carport and load it into an older model pickup truck. Officers with the Vidor Police Department located Ashworth’s truck at the In and Out Store at 100 West Freeway in Vidor shortly afterwards with the lawnmower in the bed of the truck.

Ashworth, 44, was placed under arrest for theft (Class B) and public intoxication (Class C) and transported to the Orange County Jail. Ashworth was arraigned by Derry Dunn, Orange County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2, and his bond was set at $1,000 for the theft charge and $500 for the public intoxication charge.
