Local authorities are searching for a Jefferson County teenager who was lost in the Neches River while swimming with friends.
Mikheal Mashiah, 19, went under water after struggling to stay afloat Thursday evening and now several entities are searching the Neches River in the area of Lakeview Sandbar in north Vidor.
Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputies were told several young adults were swimming in the area and Mashiah became weak and was unable to stay above the surface level. Other swimmers attempted to help but the victim continued to struggle and started to pull those attempting to help under water. Mashiah then went under water and never resurfaced.
The Sheriff’s Office is being assisted by the Vidor Fire Department, Little Cypress Fire Department and Texas Parks and Wildlife in the search for the missing teen.
