The year is starting off with an increase in drug activity in Orange.
During the first 25 days of 2012, there were 7 reports of controlled substances in the City of Orange.
The same time in 2013, there are already 16 reports, more than doubling since last year.
The total reports of controlled substances in 2012 was 206.
There were three incidents on Thursday.
City of Orange police officers at 8:30 a.m. were at 3709 16th Street in reference to a shoplifter at Market Basket.
The manager of the store was waiting by a 2002 Honda with a woman sitting in the driver’s seat.
The manager told the officers the woman was seen removing merchandise from the store without purchasing the items, according to police reports.
The woman was asked several times to step out of the vehicle and appeared hesitate to comply.
The officer asked if she had anything illegal inside her purse or car, to which she told the officer no.
During the search of the vehicle, the officer found a coin purse which contained 29 yellow oblong pills bearing Watson 853, 10 white with blue oval pills bearing K25, 106 white round pills bearing TEVA 834, 5 blue round pills bearing S193, 2 blue oblong pill bearing LU D02, several unknown pills with “No Markings” and several prescription labels which contained several different names, none of which were issued to the woman.
The woman was arrested for Possession of Controlled Substance Class A and 3 counts of Possession of
Controlled Substance Class B.
Officers at 8 p.m. were patrolling the area of 3rd and Burton when a man was standing at the corner, blocking the sidewalk.
The officers approached the man, who appeared nervous according to police reports.
The man told the officers he should have something illegal on him when he was asked.
A search produced a a silver metal pipe with burnt copper wire in one end, commonly known as a crack pipe.
The man was arrested for drug paraphernalia.
The third report was not yet available.
