ORANGE —
Soon Orange County residents could soon be able to pay taxes, motor vehicle registration and boat licenses with a debit or credit card at the counter.
Orange County Tax Assessor-Collector Lynda Gunstream said there will be a convenience fee for the service.
“The customers will be aware of the fee,” Gunstream said during Commissioners Court on Tuesday. “The fee would be 2.5% or $3, whichever is greater for the credit cards.”
A decision was not made during the meeting due to the commissioners had not had a chance to look at the contract at that time. The item will be included on the agenda for Jan. 28.
The construction on the Orange County Convention and Expo Center is in the final stages. The Texas Association of Counties (TAC) met with Director of Emergency Management Jeff Kelley to discuss insurance needs for the building.
“This building becomes a county building on Feb. 28,” Kelly said.
Health and Code Compliance Director Joel Ardoin said CIAP award letters should be received this week for those who are awarded.
Other county business included:
• Payment of county bills for a total of $766,940.14
• Signing Amendment #5 for the Hurricane Ike Round One project with GLO.
• Filing into the minutes the County Treasurer’s Quarterly Investment report.
