ORANGE —
NEWS BULLETIN: Democrats and Republicans agree. “People who complain about The Fiscal Cliff can be divided into two classes: men and women.” By the time you read this lawmakers will have figured something out that is intended to deal with the so-called Fiscal Cliff. I am not a legal prognosticator so I have no answers for any of our fiscal problems. I will, however, quote from someone who has written something we all agree upon. Benjamin Franklin said: "The only things certain in life are death and taxes.” About the second certainty I have nothing to say. About the first certainty, however, I have much to say. Death IS A CERTAINTY. Scripture says, “And as it is appointed unto men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation” (Hebrews 9:27-28 NKJV).
These verses contain both a warning and wonderful promise. Scripture says everyone faces his/her time of death and a time to stand before the Judgment Bar of God. Eternal life waits for those who believe because Christ died to forgive sins and, “He will appear a second time” to save us out of this world of sin into eternal life in His presence. Yes, Jesus is coming again. The Bible is clear, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad” (2 Corinthians 5:10).
This New Year is only five days old and like it or not we have been confronted with questions of what we want in our New Year. Have we made New Year resolutions; what are some things we are determined (again) to change? Or, do we believe fate will rule and things will continue to be as they have been—some things good, some things bad—or, as some are fond of saying, W H A T E V E R!
A song says: “Standing somewhere in the shadows you’ll find Jesus. He’s a friend who always cares and understands. Standing somewhere in the shadows you will find Him, and you’ll know Him by the nail prints in His hands.” Death is inevitable. You’ll want to meet Jesus when it happens.
