VIDOR —
Officers of the Vidor Police Department were dispatched to 235 North Main, Vidor, about 3:28p.m. on Friday, June 29, in reference to a Reckless Driver.
Several calls had been received at the Vidor Police Department about a blue SUV doing donuts in and around the parking lot of the business. Upon the Officers arrival, they saw a blue Dodge Durango parked in the back parking area. Officers spoke with a witness at the scene. Shortly thereafter, they made contact with a white male at the business, the male, who was later identified to be Chad Robert Rogers, smelled of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his breath and person.
In speaking with Rogers, a witness stated “Officer that is him.”
The Officers attempted to identify Rogers by first asking for his identification. Rogers replied he did not have it with him.
Officers asked for his name and Rogers replied “I don’t Know.”
Officers attempted again to identify him and asked if he was refusing to identify himself and Rogers replied “Yes.”
Officers attempted to take Rogers into custody; however, he pushed one of the Officers off the porch. As the officer regained his balance, Rogers jumped off the porch and attempted to put the officer in a head lock. The officer was able to escape from the headlock. Orange County Sheriff’s Deputies were also at the scene and were assisting in trying to take Rogers into custody.
In attempts to subdue Rogers, a Vidor officer deployed his Taser unit striking Rogers. Rogers removed the points of contact from his body. A Deputy discharged his Taser Unit on Rogers and he fell to the ground. Rogers was eventually taken into custody.
Meanwhile, as other Officers were arriving on the scene, Officers saw other officers running behind a building. As one of the Officers stood by, a white female, who was later identified to be Karla Rogers, Chads mother, was yelling from the back door of the building to “Get off of him!” Karla Rogers started walking to the where the others were at with her son.
Officers repeatedly gave her verbal commands to stay back, but she continued to interfere. One of the Officers stood in her path and told Rogers to stay back and she continued to push forward and pushed forward against the officer using her chest.
Rogers was yelling at the officers and continued to interfere. Officers attempted to take Rogers into custody when Rogers used her right hand, in a closed fist, and struck the officer in the left side of the head on the ear.
Rogers was eventually taken into custody as well, both Karla and her son Chad were transported to the Orange County jail.
Two Vidor Officers were injured and sought medical treatment at St. Elizabeth Hospital Emergency room.
Karla Rogers was charged with Interference with Public Duties (Bond $1,000) and Assault on a Public Servant (Bond $5,000). She was arraigned by 260th District Court Judge Buddie Hahn.
Chad Rogers was charged with Reckless Driving (Bond $500), Failure to identify (Bond $500), Resisting Arrest (Bond $1,500), and Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant (Bond $25,000). He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 Judge Derry Dunn.
