ORANGE —
Millions of Texans will hit the highways this week to celebrate the Fourth of July.
AAA Texas has announced approximately 3 million Texans will travel at some point this week to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday. Despite Independence Day being on a Wednesday this year, the travel agency is considering the holiday travel period to be Tuesday, July 3, through Sunday, July 8.
Many Texans have already hit the road to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday, while many others will begin leaving today and Wednesday to visit family or get an early start to vacation trips across the state and country.
Approximately 2.5 million Texans will travel by automobile, while the remainder will travel by air, train, bus and even cruise ship to their getaway destinations.
Declining gas prices have been an added consideration for those deciding to hit the road this holiday.
The statewide average for a gallon of unleaded gasoline is $3.20, according to the associated press, which is a drop of 13-cents per gallon since June 14. Fuel prices in Orange County remain among the least expensive in the state with many fuel locations bordering at $3.00 per gallon. Some of the lowest advertised prices include $2.96 per gallon at several locations in Orange.
