ORANGE —
The arrival of February means many things in Orange County, including annual events like Valentine’s Day, President’s Day and the yearly coin show.
The annual Greater Orange Coin Club Spring Coin Show, is being held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 16, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 17, at the VFW Hall at 5303 N. 16th St. in Orange.
Admission is $2 at the door for adults and children are admitted free. There will be free appraisals, plus rare coins, paper money, jewelry and bullion for sale.
A children’s auction will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, which is always a big highlight. The children who participate are given play money to bid on items they view before the auction and wish to purchase. The purpose of the event is to encourage children to participate in fun hobbies like coin collecting.
The annual coin show is such a popular event that coin dealers from across Southeast Texas region, as well as Louisiana and even Mississippi attend the event.
People with rare coins or coins which they are unsure of the value may want to consider attending the event as well.
Whether you hope to sell the coin or just obtain an estimated value, there are enough dealers on location to help you out. Vendors at coin shows also tend to offer better deals to people than other businesses which randomly set up shop in a hotel lobby for a weekend, according to David Scott of the Greater Orange Coin Club.
