BRIDGE CITY —
The journey to a good relationship can begin with the smallest of steps.
The Bridge City Independent School District took several steps on Wednesday afternoon, literally, in effort to continue its positive relationship with its district patrons. Administrators and teachers split into numerous groups and walked neighborhoods on Wednesday to introduce themselves to parents and deliver a packet containing a variety of information children and parents might need to start the new school year.
The “Redbird Roundup” is something that Mike King, Bridge City ISD superintendent, believes would build stronger relationships with the community.
“We are blessed with the best teachers in the state, and we want to work on building those relationships within our community,” King explained. “We often ask the parents to come to the schools, but we never get out into the community in this manner. We thought it would be a good way to spend time in the community, especially since everyone is getting ready to go back to school.”
King said 62 teams, comprised of three to six people each, visited approximately 1,500 addresses across Bridge City ISD on Wednesday afternoon. Many people were not home, but many others were.
“A lot of people seemed to be surprised we were out doing this, but the response has been very, very positive,” King added. “I think it was a good experience for everyone.”
The packet district personnel delivered included various information for the start of the school year. Items included newsletters from each campus, supply lists for students attending Bridge City Elementary and Bridge City Intermediate, lunch information, a 2012-2013 school calendar, the fall athletics schedules, booster club information, a computer safety flyer and a refrigerator magnet.
Parents who did not receive a packet but would like to obtain one may do so by contacting their child’s campus.
