‘We Remember’ still a go, rain or shine
BRIDGE CITY — This Sunday the community of Bridge City will celebrate it’s triumph over adversity and Hurricane Ike with a special event known as “We Remember.”
Unfortunately, Mother Nature looks to be in a less than cooperative mood as the National Weather Service has a 50 percent chance of scattered storms forecast for Sunday with highs in the upper 80s.
The celebration will be held at the Bridge City Community Center and the grounds surrounding the recently renovated facility from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday. This also happens to be one year to the day after Hurricane Ike ravaged 99 percent of Bridge City and other areas of Orange County, such as Orange, West Orange and Rose City.
“I guess it would have to rain since we are ‘remembering’ Ike,” said Kirk Roccaforte, Bridge City mayor, with a laugh. “Honestly, whether it rains or not, the event will go on as scheduled. We have the community center available, and we will have plenty of tents on the grounds, so hopefully we can stay dry.”
The event has been in the planning stages all summer and will reach its climax Sunday afternoon as the community celebrates the successes and triumphs following Ike with fellowship, food, activities, slide shows, live music, guest speakers and more. Guests attending the event are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
Recent additions include Boy Scout troop 125 and a performance by the Bridge City Strutters.
