PINEHURST —
LeadsOnline brings another happy ending.
The City of Pinehurst Police Department has used LeadsOnline to help recover stolen property for several years.
The first week of signing on with the organization over $6,000 worth of stolen items was recovered from the Baton Rouge, La. area.
This time a stolen lawnmower was discovered at a pawn shop and has since been returned to the owner just one month after it was taken.
Originally, Pinehurst Police Department funded the use of LeadsOnline with drug seizure money.
“I asked the city to fund the use of the program,” Fred Hanauer III, chief of police, said. “The drug seizure money is not always there.”
LeadsOnline serves as an agent of law enforcement agaencies where pawn shops and other stores can list items they have recieved and is compared to items police departments have listed as stolen. When a match is found, an e-mail is sent to the agency to inform that the item has been located.
According to the website www.leadsonline.com, businesses typically have an obligation to make transaction information available for law enforcement investigations. LeadsOnline makes the process easier.
