27,000 State Farm claims reported

State Farm Insurance believes helping people recover from the unexpected is what being a good neighbor is all about. As the largest insurer of cars and homes in Texas and the nation, State Farm is in the areas impacted by Hurricane Ike responding to customers’ needs.

To date, 27,000 claims have been reported. This early number will rapidly change as residents are able to return to the area and report their claims. We strongly encourage State Farm customers to report their claims as soon as possible to begin the claim handling process.

State Farm has taken the following actions to serve impacted customers:

- Over 200 “first response” claims adjusters are on site, assisting the more than 1,100 agents and employees who live and work in the greater Houston area in handling claims.

- A claims force of more than 1,600 adjusters has been activated and being mobilized to impacted areas.

- The 1-800-SF-CLAIM line, staffed by approximately 450 operators, is available for State Farm customers to report their claim and begin the claims process.

- Employees in 9 states ready to assist with customer calls.

- The more than 350 State Farm agents in impacted areas all have claim handling capabilities.

- We are setting up multiple temporary State Farm field locations, in addition to our existing agent and claims offices, in areas of greatest need.

- These temporary State Farm field locations are self sufficient and not dependant on the availability of power.
