With tears streaming down their faces, the Bridge City senior class left the football field for the last time, still convinced that beating Coldspring was within reach. The scoreboard, though, told a different story.
The Trojans dominated in a 47-7 decision over the Cardinals in the bidistrict round of the Class 3A state football playoffs at Ray Maddry Memorial Stadium on Friday night. From the beginning, there was little doubt that Coldspring would have its way against Bridge City.
“We thought we could run but, then, that’s our game,” said Bridge City Head Coach Cris Stump. “We run it and then we throw off that.”
