JASPER, Texas —
It was a tough going for the Bridge City Cardinals as they headed to Jasper to face the very talented Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs held a shutout on the Cardinals until there was just about a minute left in the game and won 21-7 to improve to 4-1 on the year.
Bridge City (2-3, 1-0) scored on a 32 yard-touchdown reception by Tanner Cervenka on a throw by Daniel Faulk.
The rest of Friday’s non-district game was dominated by the Bulldogs who only allowed five first downs by Bridge City.
Bridge City was only able to gain 49 total yards of offense against Jasper who held a 14-0 lead at the break. The Bulldogs then scored on a 45-yard touchdown run by Terrence Cuney.
Ashton Hunter gained 16 yards on 18 carries while Faulk forced into -27 yards rushing on seven carries.
Faulk was 7-for-22 passing with the lone touchdown and no interceptions.
Keaton Langston had two receptions for 15 yards while Collin Smith had two receptions for eight yards.
Jasper got on the board with just over four minutes left in the first period as Donovan Middleton scored from four yards out.
Middleton did it to Bridge City again as the second period was closing out with a 31-yard run to make it 14-0 with 1:14 left before the break.
The Cardinals return to 21-3A play Friday when they play host to the Silsbee Tigers.
